China: Day 1 – Spa for the girls… Science and Technology Museum for the guys and kids.

First full day in China and everyone is up early… not a surprise with the change in time.  They went to bed about 11pm last night.  I am hoping they get their body clocks set so that they can enjoy every minute of their time here.  The ‘surprise’ trip to Beijing will be confirmed today.  I say surprise with tongue in cheek as Michael let the cat out of the bag a few days before they left.  He did not realize he was doing it, but Marcy said something about the weather in Shanghai and he said she needed to worry about Beijing.  Well nothing escapes her and even though I tried to do the big cover…  I failed miserably!

Today is our 25th wedding anniversary!  The plan was to have a fun day for everyone and then head to the Bund for an anniversary dinner and the Huangpu River boat ride.  Since the weather was not really cooperating for the boat ride… we postponed our family celebration until Tuesday night when the weather is hopefully going to be better.

Today would be a spa day for my daughters.  I took them for a foot massage.  I thought they would enjoy it and we could spend a little time together without the grandkids.  Hanne joined us too.  It was a great time… if you could overlook the rain.  Here are a few pics…

The cab ride… need I say more!

My beautiful daughters…Marcy and Jennifer.

After the relaxing foot massage I needed to pick up a couple of things I forgot at the Carrefour… so we made the short walk in the rain.  It gave them a chance to look around a bit.  Marcy would have done better with she had not worn flip flops in the rain.  She had a couple of close calls, but managed to keep her feet under her!

The Carrefour was a real eye opener for Marcy and Jennifer.  They were not prepared for the differences in food offerings.

Turtles, eels or frogs anyone?  Yummmmmm… dinner?  NOT!!!

The smells can be pretty overwhelming!!  It is the dried fish stuff that is so … stinky!

Dinner?  Marcy was not so sure about that!

Are we done yet?

They were glad when the supermarket trip was over… it had been an interesting and educational experience!

While we were off doing our girl things, the guys had taken all the kids to the Science and Technology Museum.  There were lots of pictures, but here are a few pictures Chris took on their outing.

What a day… I think the rain was only an inconvenience because everyone had a great time and they never skipped a beat!
